Williamsburg/Greenpoint News + Arts (2012)
Issue #37 Cover Story

“Ten Years of Music, Williamsburg Oral History 2002-2012″
by Andy P. Smith

I wrote the cover story, Ten Years of Music 2002-2012: A Williamsburg Oral History, for the July issue of The Williamsburg/Greenpoint News and Arts . Interviewing musicians, promoters, venue managers and influencers, I aimed to craft an overview of this period of time in North Brooklyn. It’s a continuing work in progress. This newspaper article is just the beginning, and I hope to meet with and interview countless more individuals. If you’re interested in participating in this project, please do write me.

For the same issue, I also wrote descriptions for 26 music venues, some legit, some not, for a Map of Williamsburg Venues.

Colors Magazine (2008)
Issue #75 Feature Story

“Front Line”
by Andy P. Smith

For COLORS issue #75 I wrote a feature story profiling Jim Wagner, and his patented Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection Terrorism Survival Course. I immersed myself in Wagner’s survival course, interviewed him and his students and wrote about it in the context of the “Cease Fear” theme of the magazine.

On sale in 40 countries, 3 editions, published in 4 languages, with a critically acclaimed website, COLORS is a quarterly magazine that talks to young people all around the world. Since its founding in 1991, COLORS has continued to publish work with the premise that diversity is positive and all cultures have equal value.

Welcome to the Land of Cannibalistic Horses

556-page soft-cover book (2005)

by Andy P. Smith
illustrated by Mike Force

I wrote Welcome to the Land of Cannibalistic Horses during the 2004 Presidential campaigns while criss-crossing the USA in a bright green RV. This 556-page collection of essays and interviews is designed and illustrated by Mike Force, and published by Puberty Press.

I traveled to Orlando, Florida in search of Freedom and found myself drug-addled in the Happiest Place on Earth… Contemplating who has the best job in America, I interviewed the organ player at Wrigley Field. I saw G.W. Bush speak to union workers in Detroit and just weeks later snuck into the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

Read interviews with Wesley Willis, David LaChapelle, Bernardine Dohrn, Dan Savage, Jim Coch, Gloria Feldt and more… essays on gentrification in Brooklyn, Reality Television, Phish, Disney, and Democracy circa 2004.

Venezia Non Sta Affondando /
Venice Is Not Sinking

Collection of Stories (Marsilio, 2007)

featuring “Portando Speranza alla Laguna / Bringing Hope to the Lagoon”
by Andy P. Smith

My short story “Portando Speranza Alla Laguna” is a fantastical comedy of love gained and love lost between a bearded lady and an animal trainer in a traveling carnival on their way through Venice.
