In this episode Professor Wexler and I play home-town heroes Japanther and emerging fuzz buzz duo Unstoppable Death Machines. And we announce the premiere of a new Brooklyn party called “Sex Planet” at Legion Bar next week. Take a listen!
Matt Reilly & Ian Vanek are JAPANTHER – 6/14/11 at MHoW
Listen: 10 years is a long fuckin’ time. In “band years” 10 years is like, I dunno, 1,000 years! Particularly if you’re in a band with Ian and Reilly. I’m impressed. Congrats, guys! You did it! It warms my heart a little bit, not to get all gushy on ya. But I’ll say it anyway: I’m damn proud of you guys.
Japanther has done so much to inspire me and encourage me over the last decade. Very truly and sincerely, thank you.

Johnny “Shell” and Jen “Shag” are SHELLSHAG – 6/14/11 at MHoW
Shellshag opened for Japanther and killed it. Why? ‘Cause Shellshag’s been doin it since you knew what to do with it.
THIS ONE TIME…
My buddy Catfish threw a party on the Williamsburg Bridge with Japanther and Ninjasonik. I filmed some of the awesome, check it out:

THIS OTHER TIME…
I booked a two-night festival of the best Brooklyn bands at a warehouse in Greenpoint.
We made a short documentary about it. Japanther is in it.

GOD BLESS JAPANTHER!
GOD BLESS BROOKLYN!
GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE!

I guess the Big Apple Circus security didn’t expect people to dance and mosh during the ROCK AND ROLL SHOW last night. Hmmmmm… seems people were none too happy when the show ended prematurely.
Just goes to show… you can’t have fun in Manhattan anymore.
Well done, gentlemen. Finally, a music video show I care about. Soft Circle’s “Sasquatch Daydream” at the 8:50 mark really did it for me this morning. But watch it from the beginning… Ian Vanek and Matt Reilly (Japanther) have curated a smart selection of music videos bumper’d with clever animated interviews for Flavorpill.
Featuring… Japanther “The Dirge” (New Bad Things cover) Directed by Mike Reynolds Cerebral Ballzy “Drug Myself Dumb” Directed by Aïda Ruilova Ghost Mall “Johnny Appleseed” Live at SUNY Purchase Soft Circle“Sasquatch Daydream” Directed by Daniel Leeb
PS – Flavorpill now has a “Brooklyn” site. Why? Because Manhattan is boring.
